Remember how Cady Heron, Lindsay Lohan's character, describe Halloween in the movie Mean Girls? Well, if you don't, let me refresh your memory: "Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it." I've never heard anything more true in my life.

Despite the slut factor, I love halloween. And I'm not trying to make myself sound like a prude. I do dress a little sluttier than I usually would, but regardless: halloween is fun.

Since I don't have carnival here, I need to count on halloween in order for me to dress up. And there are always so many costumes to chose from. Freshman year, per example, I was a sexified version of Strawberry Shortcake (which wasn't really all that sexy). Sophmore year, I was a nurse (ok, that was pretty slutty/sexy). Last year, I was a cowgirl (once again, not that sexified). This year, I will be a 19020's flapper girl. The art of dressing up with your friends, and going out in clothes that you usually wouldn't wear, is the funnest thing in the world. People look at you weirdly, but all attention is drawn to you. I usually don't like attention, but every halloween, something gets to me, and I become this attention whore. I get totally dolled up, and get into whatever character I'm this year. A nurse, strawberry shortcake, a cowgirl, a flapper girl,... you name it.

Halloween is the American carnival that I don't have, except a little better. Halloween is the art of asking random strangers for candy. It's like Sao Cosme Damiao, but with costumes.

Halloween is the best day of the year.

I really wanted to do a post in between the series posts, but I didn't have the time. So, I'm sorry if this look sorta of unorganized and ugly, you know, with two posts kinda of similar (although, really different at the same time). Oh, and I also apologize for not posting when I said that I probably would. Yeah, sorry about that.

In the past 2 weeks, I've applied to all of my California State Schools AND a few private ones. No, I don't know why I'm applying to the private ones, considering that the chances of me going to one is rare, but Jessica, Will's college counselor, is driving me crazy with the college apps, and telling me to apply everywhere (so, tip #1: although college counselors are one of the best things in the world, don't forget to tell them the exact places that you wanna apply, and don't be like me and actually say no when you don't wanna apply somewhere), but she is great and I would be completely lost without her. So, I started applying to some private schools that apparently wanted me (they will send you an email offering you a scholarship or a fee waiver or something), you know, the ones that I didn't have to pay for the application process, and now I'm enrolled in "The Common App," the website for all the applications for private colleges.

So, let me tell you something about college applications (for every single college). If you are like me and live in California, there are three websites that you need to go. "The Common App," if you are applying for a private school; "CSU Mentor," for all of the California State Schools; and the UC (University of California) website which I do not know, because I'm not applying there. All of the college websites are really great, because all you gotta do is fill out one really long form, and then, the next school you apply to, all of your information will already be there waiting for you to click "next." If you, like me, want to go out of state, make sure to check the school's website and apply there (like what I'm doing with Arizona State University, per example).

Oh, if you are applying for a private school, don't forget to write your personal statement, which should talk about you and an event/person that define who you are. And, if you are applying for private schools, you need to get a recommendation letter from a teacher or a counselor, so make sure to get on that. I didn't know that I was applying to a private school until today, so on Monday, I need to go talk to my high school counselor and ask him to fill out my recommendation letter (which Drexel University already provide me with, but I was dumb enough and threw it away. *sight).

Ok, enough about private schools. For the California State Universities, I applied to Northridge, Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo, San Jose, and San Francisco, all for the journalism major and the English minor. I did not expect San Francisco State to be as demanding about journalism as they are. They expect me to know a second/third language (thank god I know three), have worked with journalism before, write a journalism essay, send them a copy of an article that was on the newspaper,... It's funny though, because San Francisco is supposed to be my safe school, and it's turning out to be one of the hardest to get in. Ironic, isn't it?

Well, that's all I've done for now. Next week, I think that I'm gonna send my ACT scores to all of the schools that I've applied. Ugh. Being a High School senior is not easy. Whoever said that this is the best year of high school was seriously under the influence.

There will be about 6 or 7 posts titled: "Confessions of a high school senior," and in each post I'll be talking about whatever I had to do for college (personal statements, college applications,...). maybe I'll even do a video blog about it.. who knows?! ;)

(PS: This was supposed to be post # uno, but I still need to check a few things with my counselor, so I'll start doing my college applications on friday, so as soon as I'm done with that, I'll come back here and tell you guys everything I learned from that experience, the colleges I applied,... - not that you guys care at all, or that anyone reads this haha I just wanted to share, like I always do, about the struggles that we, seniors, always have to go through.)
